Frederika got in touch for a yoga photography session as she wanted to capture intimate moments of her practice to portray what she does in an authentic way. It was really important to show people little moments, rather than peak poses, which can be misleading as you normally can't do them when you're starting out. So connecting with her audience was really important for her. She was looking for a professional photographer as she had been capturing her own yoga photos so far, but essentially it's super hard to capture the best light and angles as well as pose at the same time for your own images. So she was looking for a yoga photographer to bring her vision to life!
Yoga being a spiritual and mindful practice, not one focused solely on physical exertion, we set out to capture the soul of what she does rather than just the poses and actions that make up a session, and I think we achieved that!

Initially, we had a consultation call, so I could hear more about what she does, the type of images she wanted, what she aimed to use them for, if there were any specific content or workshops coming up in the next few months. We agreed to capture three types of shots - yoga poses, mindfulness photos and client training (to really bring what she does to life). I also always put together a mood board for my clients and invite them to add to it and edit as they see fit, so we have a good bank of inspiration to work with. These images can be ideas for poses, colour schemes, location ideas etc.
As we were covering a few ideas we decided to shoot some of the images at her home and others at a park nearby to really emphasise that you can do yoga anywhere.

We knew we wanted to bring to life all aspects of her business, so not just the coaching and movement, but the person and work that goes on behind the scenes. We used her day-to-day work props, like laptop, her favourite notebook, candles etc. For mindfulness shots we set the scene by using incense to make it really intimate and cosy and by incorporating a sound bowl and candles too.
We included a 'client' in this shoot as well. It's not essential, but being able to show yourself in full work mode is a fantastic way of bringing the service to life. We had also discussed different outfits we could use for the various scenarios for her yoga photoshoot. I offer this advice to every one of my clients, it is a really quick and easy way of adding variety to a shoot and giving the client a much more time-resistant end product. A photo set can quickly become over-used if they all look very similar in terms of setting, lighting and outfit.
"I really enjoyed the end result of the photos and I keep posting them every few days. As a result my Instagram has a nice mix of personal and professional photos that still feel very soft and touching, not clinical photos in front of a white wall. It's in my own space and captures it in a unique way!"
