If you're anything like me you're going a bit stir crazy being stuck at home right about now. Hence, this list of some fantastic places I'm currently dreaming about shooting at! It's a mix of places I've shot at and some that I'd absolutely love to shoot at when the lockdown is over. I've tried to keep it short and sweet, so it's far from a comprehensive list of places to shoot in London as the list would be far too long for one post, rather it's hopefully a list of a few places you haven't yet shot at and acts as an inspiration. It's also a bit biased towards green spaces as I absolutely love to find these rare spots in London! And (selfishly!) most of these work well for portrait and yoga photography.
The Hill Garden and Pergola in Hampstead Heath
Hidden in the midst of Hampstead Heath, this little gem is a perfect mix of nature and architecture and offers something for all seasons - whether you're looking for a colourful autumn backdrop or blooming spring. The great thing about this location is that you get a variety of backdrops close together, so can get the most out of your shoot. Situated on two levels you've got plenty of steps to pose on and even a tiny pond if that's the sort of thing you're after. Keep an eye on the opening times though, as they change throughout the year (usually closing just before sunset) to avoid disappointment :)
Closest station: Hampstead
Mayfield Lavender Farm
I mean, need I say more! Imagine, lavender fields as far as your eye can see.
This has been on my list of places I'd love to shoot at for some time and I can't wait to get round to it. It might sound a little bit like an Instagram cliche, but trust me, it's pretty dreamy. It's tucked away just outside of London and is a fairly easy train ride away :)
Closest station: Sutton Station or Coulsdon South Station (short 8 min taxi drive away from these two)
St Dunstan in the East
This one is also on my list because of it's lovely combination of architecture and green space. What makes this particular spot special is that they are church ruins, turned into a public park. This in itself creates a somewhat mysterious backdrop for your images. It is perfect for a variety of photos from headshots to yoga photography.
Closest station: Monument or Tower Hill
Barbican Centre
Last but not least, to throw in something a bit different, is Barbican Centre. To call it huge would be an understatement. It is also one of those spaces that offers you a variety of backdrops for your images, so creativity is your only limit for capturing a range of different shots. It's laid out across multiple levels and even has a Conservatory with plenty of greenery and an artificial pond, so something for everyone. Fantastic for urban backgrounds!
Closest station: Barbican or Moorgate
